Back in the days of cowboys, the open frontier, and the Wild West, people used to hang around the hitching post. As time went by, people would hang out at the post office, as they dropped off and picked up mail. At each of these places, people would stand around and share their experiences, joys, frustrations, and stories.

These days, a “post” on a blog becomes the place to hang out and talk. And, starting today, I’m going to make it even easier with the Fit For Jesus Daily Prayer Post.

As you know, “Spirituality” is the foundation for successful, permanent weight loss with the Fit For Jesus program. It MUST come first on your priority list for losing weight and having a mindset of Fitness Focused on Eternity.

Spirituality is important because, ultimately, your entire existence depends on the fact that God created us to know and glorify Him and to enjoy a relationship with Him. And to do that – indeed, to truly know and enjoy a relationship with *anyone* – we must spend time communicating!

God communicates with us as we read His Word. The Holy Spirit speaks to us, leads us, and intercedes with us as we read the Holy Bible. But to do our part… we have to pray!

So, since Spirituality is the foundation of Fit For Jesus (and everything else we do in life), we are creating the Fit For Jesus Daily Prayer Post. It will be a place to come and hang out, share your prayers, and pray for others.

Feel free to pray about anything! Here are some prayer ideas for you to consider: personal, family, friends, co-workers, teachers, pastors, neighbors, the community, your nation, and the world. In addition, we want to encourage you to pray for the other people posting. Of course, by doing that, others will be praying for YOU, as well!

Here is specifically what to do at the Fit For Jesus Daily Prayer Post… it’s easy!

1) Place your prayer in the Comment box.

2) Pray for the previous *FIVE* prayers posted.

Quick Note: because we have to approve all the comments, it may take a while before your prayer or comment is approved and posted. We will try to check them frequently throughout the day from Iraq, and I will be working with someone in the United States to handle that side of the globe.

Comment! Get started below right now and place your prayer for today in the Comment box! We’ll be praying for you!

As I work more and more each day on bringing you the Fit For Jesus program, I become even more and more certain that Spirituality is the missing link for Christian weight loss. More importantly, it is the missing factor for most of the troubles we face in our lives.

I’m going to be really transparent here and share something personal: I’m frustrated. I’m frustrated with a Christian nation, myself included, who has fallen deeply into the lies of the world and of Satan.

I’m not sure how many Christians really understand that there is a literal war going on in the spiritual realm. I won’t even pretend to understand the spiritual realm, itself, but I can read clearly enough in the Bible to know that human souls are involved and are deeply significant.

Your soul. My soul. Your loved ones’ souls.

Everyday, Christians are faced with hundreds of decisions that affect their outcome in eternity. One of those decisions involves how well you treat the temple of God’s Holy Spirit – your body!

Let’s be clear: your body is temporary. Because of that, someone could incorrectly assume that his or her body isn’t very important. But the reality is that your body and my body were created by God in His image. It is special, if only for that reason (although there are many more verses in the Bible that prove how special our bodies are).

But there is more.

You see, Jesus told a few parables in His time. A few of them taught lessons about being prepared. A few taught lessons about using our talents, skills, and possessions wisely. Our bodies are a gift of God and clearly defined in the Bible as the temple of the Holy Spirit. How we “use our possession” and how we “prepare” for eternity by taking care of His gift WILL have an impact on our outcome in heaven.

So… go back to the beginning: there is a spiritual war going on right now that involves your human soul. Your soul is directly connected to your mind and body. Our very existence means that God gave us a chance to choose Him, to serve Him, to love Him, and to take care of His possessions wisely as we prepare for His return.

When your body is exhausted, depleted and ultimately gone, all of your chances and opportunities for choice will be over. All of my chances will be over. My future in heaven will no longer be under my influence from that moment forward.

The question is this: what choices will you make until then to ensure that, Lord willing, you have a LONG, healthy lifetime of wise decisions to make, to the glory of Jesus?

Let me know what you are thinking and feeling…

At Fit For Jesus, Spirituality comes first in the Spirituality, Mindset, Nutrition, Exercise, Lifestyle formula. It is, by far, the most important ingredient for creating a healthy, injury-free body with lower than average body fat. Spirituality is the Christ-focused foundation for the “Fitness Focused on Eternity” slogan.

I’m going to tell you a secret. The biggest goal of Fit For Jesus is not to help people lose a ton of weight… it is to help Christians think more about their relationship with Christ. It is to help people focus on their relationship with Jesus, much more than they focus on anything else on earth. And while this may come as a big shock (I’m kidding), your relationship with Jesus is more important than your health and fitness.

We believe, though, that health, fitness, weight loss, and even athleticism can be an excellent tool for focusing our minds on the love of Christ and our future in eternity. And, of course, since the Bible is clear that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, we believe it is important to honor God with our bodies.

But, for now, let’s look at the concept of allowing Fit For Jesus to focus your mind on Christ.

On one end of the motivation spectrum, you’ll find that most people, us included, tend to think about looking better and feeling better about ourselves when we strive to improve our fitness. They want to look better in an outfit (or out of it), or they want to feel better, both physically and mentally, as they perform everyday activities.

On the other end, some people have been whacked upside the head with a medical diagnosis that basically demands they improve their health or face death much sooner than planned. I realize that is blunt, but we’ve seen more than one client in that situation, and it tends to be both frightening and heart-breaking. We don’t want to see you get that kind of a wake-up call.

The point is this: everyone has a reason they either eventually start (or continue) to exercise or eat right. The key is to focus your “reason why” on things that are out of this world. So far out of this world, in fact, that they could be considered heavenly.

The truth is that there is no stronger motivation in this world than to glorify and honor God for His precious gift and Son, Jesus Christ. Exercising and eating right with the goal of “doing everything as unto the Lord” provides a deeper, stronger level of motivation to keep making the effort than any other thing that my worldly mind can come up with.

At Fit For Jesus, we truly believe with our whole heart and mind that God will bless our focus on Him with greater motivation to achieve, more willpower when life takes more effort, and – dare we say it – better, more permanent results from exercise and nutrition.

You simply can’t argue the fact that God is the greatest source of strength and power when things are tough. And despite what the world says, losing weight can be tough. So why not draw from God’s absolutely eternal, ever-flowing well of strength and power?

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

~ Isaiah 12:2-3

God deeply desires to do these things for you. Let the Lord be your salvation in ALL things on this earth. Let Him be your strength and defense. Focus your mind on Christ, both in and out of the weight room or kitchen.

My friend, Get Fit For Jesus.

You can buy thousands (literally) of weight loss, diet, or exercise books. You can go month after month to the gym, and you can buy session after session with a personal trainer. Face it: knowledge of what to do to achieve weight loss is plentiful and easily obtained. Yet, over 90% of the results obtained from a weight loss phase are not maintained.

Why is that?

For the longest time, when we were working with the “world” as NELMS Fitness, we tried to overcome the problem by helping a client focus on goals. To be fair, goals are extremely important and valuable, and they are an integral part of the Fit For Jesus system. They help a lot of people finally make the change that is needed to succeed with their weight loss. But, for too many clients, it still isn’t enough.

Another factor that we try to assist our clients with is Lifestyle. Simple tips, tricks, and methods used in your everyday life can help make a health improvement and weight loss program much more permanent. Again, teaching this to our clients increased the percentage of people that were ultimately successful, but we wanted to help even more.

So, what is the solution?

Honestly, not very many Christians “get” it. And even writing now about the topic, I’m going to have to openly tell you that I am fully aware that I don’t personally get it, either.

But what I can tell you is that this topic is, in my opinion, one of the most under-preached and “missed” topics for both new and seasoned Chrsitians, alike, yet it has astoundingly profound implications on every area of your life. In fact, this topic is the key to lifelong, permanent, change… especially in the area of health and weight loss.

What complicates the topic further is that it is probably impossible for the human brain to comprehend it completely. And what we can’t comprehend is difficult to assimilate.

But the good news is that understanding just a little of the truth behind this concept can radically change your life, even if it never fully sinks in. The other piece of good news is that the Holy Spirit will help you understand it! So, with that said, here it is…

As a Christian and God’s most amazing creation, you are infinitely valuable.

That is it. Grasping the full meaning of that sentence will change everything about your life, in every area. Obviously at Fit For Jesus, we want to explain how it applies to your personal health and weight loss.

We ultimately discovered that a person’s “value”, or self-worth, is the missing link. The brain will not support a healthy body, a positive outlook, or a low stress mindset and lifestyle if it continually tells you that you aren’t worth it. It will literally tell you, subconsciously, that you aren’t valuable enough to deserve all of the great things happening in your life.

But God, the creator of the universe, mankind, and YOU, completely disagrees.

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

~ Luke 12:6-7

Read the Bible verse above again. Understand that this isn’t just one of the disciples talking. It is JESUS talking. Jesus, the son of God, is explaining how valuable you are. And last I checked, it is tough (and not very wise) to argue with Jesus.

Take time to let these words of Jesus sink in. Your value is not determined by the world. It is not determined by your past. Your value is not determined by what your parents, friends, co-workers, or enemies, did or didn’t think about you. Your value is not determined by your intellectual or physical skill level, and it certainly is not determined by your appearance, the car you drive, the house you own, or the clothes you wear.

Your value is determined by God, and through His son, Jesus Christ, He made it very, very clear how valuable you are. Embrace it and believe it, and your life will change beyond your wildest dreams.

Question to answer below:

What is one area in your life that makes you feel less than amazingly valuable?

Tweet This Fit For Jesus Post!

In yesterday’s blog post, we looked at 7 Bible verses that talk about the body. In that post was the well-known verse from Psalms 139 about being “fearfully and wonderfully made”, but there were 6 other lesser known verses that talk about how important your body is to God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and of course, the Holy Spirit.

Here are 11 more verses that continue to prove how valuable and important it is to take care of the precious gift that God has given each of us.

And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

~ Matthew 10:30

Now if a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing a man’s whole body on the Sabbath?

~John 7:23

You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

~ I Corinthians 6:13

There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another.

~ 1 Corinthians 15:40

So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, that everyone may receive what is due them for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

~ 2 Corinthians 5:9-10

Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

~ 2 Corinthians 7:1

In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

~ Ephesians 5:28

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

~ 1 Thessalonians 5:23

He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

~ 1 Peter 2:2

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

~ 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20

Here are some quick points to ponder…

1) The Bible is filled with extremely clear references that our body and spirit are separate. Both are also clearly valuable. Too many Christians think that our current body has no importance. But how we treat and honor the gift that God has given us, a vessel for our soul, has immense importance to our eternity!

2) It is only through blood that God is willing to forgive sins. It is only through the blood and body of Jesus Christ that we are forgiven and able to live with Him in eternity! Without Jesus Christ’s body, there would not have been His saving, cleansing, purifying, and redeeming blood!

3) We are absolutely, positively the temple of the Holy Spirit. So, be sure to treat it like it says in Romans…

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is true worship.

~Romans 12:1

How are you treating your body? Are you taking care of it and offering it as a living sacrifice? Stay tuned for more information from Fit For Jesus about taking care of your temple of the Holy Spirit!

One of the most important things to understand about Christian weight loss is that God cares deeply about your body. The Bible clearly states that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. And, of course, it says that we are made in His image.

Humans are obviously God’s most amazing creation. No other species has our intelligence, phenomenal ability to create, or capacity to love and give so deeply. Interestingly, on a physical level, we are also the only one of God’s creation designed to stand completely vertically. That has deep significance for how we exercise, but let’s hit that in a separate blog article. :)

I was curious about what more the Bible has to say about our bodies and any verses related to its value. Using my trusty Kindle and Today’s New International Version, I searched for the word “body”. Here are 7 that turned up, and I have more on the way…

“Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord.”

~ Leviticus 19:28

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

~ Psalms 139:13-16

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

~ Proverbs 3:7-8

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

~Proverbs 14:30

Has not the Lord made the two of you one? You belong to Him in body and spirit. And why has he made you one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth.

~ Malachi 2:15

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?”

~ Matthew 6:25

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

~ Matthew 10:28

Here are some spiritual principles to think about, pray about, and contemplate for successful Christian weight loss!

Realize your value. Read Psalm 139:13-16 and truly discover in your heart how much God thinks about you, loves you, and cares for you.

Realize God’s sacrifice. Read John 3:16 again. And then read it again. He did that for YOU. He loves YOU!

Love yourself. “Love your neighbor as yourself” originated from God, was repeated often by Jesus, and reinforced by Paul.

Think about it: it not only means that we are supposed to love others, but that we are supposed to ALREADY love ourselves! GOD said so!

Forgive yourself: others have messed up before you. Moses murdered. David committed adultery and sent a husband to his death. Matthew was a thieving tax collector. Paul persecuted and killed. Thomas doubted. Peter denied Jesus in His very presence.

Last I checked, they all turned out ok. You can, too, if you’ll just ask for God’s forgiveness and realize that He has forgotten about it, already.

Move on. Eating yourself to death because of the past is not forgiveness (either of yourself or others), and it is a horrible, ungodly coping mechanism.

Forgive others. Bitterness is stressful. Chronic stress increases cortisol. Cortisol leads specifically to increased abdominal fat and inflammation. Abdominal fat and inflammation lead to heart attacks that kill prematurely.

Seek Him first. Face it. Life will be a struggle. Stop seeking the world and seek Him, first. “His yoke is easy, and His burden is light.”

It is a lot easier, and it becomes automatic to take care of your body (the temple of the Holy Spirit!) when you realize that you are valuable, God loves you, you are forgiven, you can forgive others, you can forgive yourself, you can move on, and you can love yourself as God commanded!

At first, you may feel selfish. I know I did.

When I first thought about the concept of becoming Fit For Jesus, getting healthy and more fit originated out of love and gratitude for His great sacrificial gift. After all, God sent His own Son to die and literally be the punishment for our sins, so that we would not spend eternity separated from Him. Once we realize the awesomeness and depth of God’s love, it compels us to do SOMETHING in return, right?

So, originally, becoming fit for Jesus was an act of thankfulness. In addition, once we have received salvation through Jesus Christ, His Holy Spirit resides in us, gently guiding us and teaching us, conforming us into His image. The motive expanded from thankfulness to an act of honoring the Holy Spirit and taking care of His temple. Either way, both of those motivators and reasons aren’t selfish and they give the glory and honor to God… but then a new motivation clicked inside my head as I listened to a sermon at church not too long ago.

I’ll need you to bear with me on this, while I explain the background.

In the sermon, one of the minor points was that there will be varying rewards in heaven. Frankly, that means that Billy Graham is going to get a better mansion than me, as well as a host of other treasures, crowns, and rewards that I simply won’t get. (For the record, that’s quite okay: Billy Graham deserves them. I’ll catch up the best I can, with God’s strength!)

Here is a nice visual representation of the concept (with absolutely no disrespect intended for the amazing Reverend Graham), and then I’ll explain what it means:

This is a graph of joy, of happiness, or spiritual reward. As you can probably imagine, everything to the left of the black dashed line is life here on earth. At point A, you are born. There are a few ups and downs in life, as well as a few ups and downs in our spiritual rewards. We get saved and receive God’s gift of salvation, we backslide a little as the devil attacks us and prevents us from reaching others, we reach out to Jesus, listen to the Holy Spirit, and we grow.

And then we die. That’s Point B.

At Point C, we find ourselves in heaven. We are all hanging around praising God in spectacular, unbelievable, reverent awe until Judgement (Point D), at which point our actions here on earth are weighed, measured, and burned up in the flames. To paraphrase the Bible, we then receive our rewards based on the good stuff that is left, and then heaven just keeps getting better and better, forever and ever. Here is the specific scripture:

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
~ 1 Corinthians 3:11-15

Our actions with a value of wood, hay, and straw get burned up and lost. If all of our actions are burned up, then we still stay in heaven, because our starting foundation is Jesus Christ, but we won’t have much extra reward. If, however, our actions are made up of gold, silver, and costly stones, which survive the flames, then we are rewarded abundantly.

I left church that Sunday with ONE thought on my mind: I want to do as many great and wonderful things as I can for Christ and in obedience to God, because I want a lot of reward in heaven. And while at first I felt selfish thinking that way, I remembered that Jesus told us to store up treasures in heaven!

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
~ Matthew 6:20-21

Naturally, my next thought was “Even though I want to be with Christ Jesus right NOW, the longer I am here, the more treasure I can store in heaven.”

Now, what does all of that have to do with getting healthy and fit for Jesus? Well, I believe it has quite a lot, depending completely on two very important assumptions.

1) We are going to assume that God doesn’t decide to take us early, and therefore die a natural death.

2) We are going to assume that we seek Christ with our whole heart and obey His Word and do really, really good stuff that equals gold, silver, and costly stones.

So, finally, we are about to reach the whole point of this article.

Take 2 people. They are born on the same day. They accept Christ on the same day when they are 9 years old. Day by day, they do the same good works, in the same order, reach the same number of people for Christ, tithe on everything, etc. They are both wonderful examples of Christ and obey Him equally.

The difference is this: one died early of a heart attack at the age of 42 because he wasn’t healthy and did not take care of his body. The other lived to be over 80 because his health was important to him, and he continued to obey the Lord.

Literally, it becomes a simple math problem. If the unhealthy guy got X amount of reward in heaven, then the healthy guy MUST have received more, because of the additional 40 years of building up treasures in heaven! It’s not that the unhealthy guy was a bad person. He was a great person who loved the Lord with His whole heart! He will still be unbelievably happy in heaven. He just didn’t live as long, and so He just doesn’t receive as much. He wasn’t able to show God’s love to as many people or win as many souls for Christ, only because he wasn’t alive as long.

So… like I said, when I left church that Sunday, I initially felt selfish. Then, I remembered Jesus told us to store our treasures in heaven. Finally, I realized that I have an entirely new reason and motivation for being healthy.

How do YOU feel? Think about it objectively, and let me know what you think.

Take care, and may the Lord bless you immeasurably,

Jeremy Nelms

“Simple” is good, especially when the goal is to get closer to Christ and/or lose weight.

Way too many people try to make a relationship with Jesus Christ difficult and complicated. Weight loss and fitness is no different, proven by diets that require an exact percentage of macronutrients at each meal or exercise programs that require complex programming, sequencing, timing, etc.

Albert Einstein said, “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” In other words, “simple” is good, but you must, at the very least, have the mandatory ingredients for success.

As with most topics in life, the application of a few basic, simple principles or skills will bring about the vast majority of your results. If I had to summarize what I feel are the top 7 action steps you and I can do to get closer to Christ right NOW, they would be:

Read God’s Word daily and actively obey.

Keep a prayer journal and use it daily.

Attend church weekly and actively learn.

Listen to Christian music throughout the day.

Find a Christian support group and friends that you interact with during the week.

Read from Christian authors and mentors who clearly follow Christ.

Remember that the Holy Spirit is WITH you while you are watching TV, surfing the internet, and talking with your friends.

Here are the top 7 action steps we can do to improve our health, lose weight and fat, and live longer, more productive lives.

For nutrition,

Eat protein and fibrous vegetables at every single meal.

Eat most of your healthy carbs within the meals before, during, and after your workout.

Include healthy fats at all the other meals.

Drink a gallon of water each day and take a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement.

Perform intelligently designed functional, full-body resistance training 2-4 times per week, depending on your skill level.

Get 20-40 minutes of moderate to intense exercise on all the other days per week, depending on your goals.

Recover weekly by taking 1 day off per week, sleeping at least 7-8 hours each night, and having 1-2 cheat meals.

Have a workout partner, coach, mentor, and/or social support and accountability group.

Make the priority of your fitness efforts focused on the Holy Spirit and heavenly rewards, instead of worldly desires.

Pretty simple, isn’t it? Yes, it takes planning. Yes, it takes effort and action.

Ultimately, if you take an extremely brief amount of time to actually create a plan that incorporates each of the 7 action steps and ACT on them, you will become closer to Jesus. You will get healthier and lose weight if you implement your plan.

But, we’re not finished, yet. Remember what Einstein said?

“Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.”

Look back over both lists. Even our basic, fundamental summaries can be simplified! In fact, what if we could summarize our overall list of 14 action steps into just 7?

Fill your mind with God’s word, His music, and Christ-led knowledge.

Fill your body with healthy protein, vegetables, and water, and properly time your healthy carbs and fats.

Move your body. Intelligently. Frequently.

Recover spiritually with prayer and physically with rest.

Enlist support. Actively participate in a Christ-centered support group and health-minded social community.

Find experts and mentors. Learn from them.

Focus on Jesus Christ with everything you do, including your fitness!

So there you have it: 7 Steps For Making Spirituality and Weight Loss Simple!

Leave us a comment below. Share with us your plan for implementing these steps, as well as your thoughts about whether there are more ingredients to a successful relationship with Jesus Christ or successful weight loss.

It’s been a long time since I’ve written a blog post that excited ME like this one does! So, after you’ve read this through and thought about it, be sure to leave a comment and let me know your valuable feedback!

In the first Fit For Jesus blog post, I mentioned the following scripture:

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body.”

1 Corinthians 6: 19-20

This is only the beginning, but what a clear beginning it is! Our body is the literal, physical temple of the Holy Spirit. By taking care of our bodies, we are taking care of our wonderful Holy Spirit’s temple. Our body is a gift from the Lord, and we should all, in a simple act of thankfulness and love, take care of our body and the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Are we required to? Technically, no. Salvation through Jesus Christ is a gift of God’s grace. Our salvation does not depend on our actions, but don’t you want to give something back to our gracious Heavenly Father, who gave His Son for us?

(In the coming weeks, we will get into a lot of detail about how, while our actions here on earth have NOTHING to do with “deserving” salvation, our actions here on earth – including your levels of health and fitness – potentially have MUCH to do with our reward in heaven!)

Here is more scripture:

Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”The Jews replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” But the temple he had spoken of was his body.

John 2: 19-21

Jesus states that His body is a temple. I know when I first came across this scripture, my gut response was, “Yeah, but that is Jesus. I can’t compare myself to Him and call my body a temple!”

It almost seems uncomfortable to compare ourselves to Jesus, doesn’t it? Yet, in the Bible, it clearly states that we are “made new in Christ”, and through the Holy Spirit “conformed to the likeness of His Son.” Yes, we are conformed into the likeness of His character and His righteousness and holiness, but Jesus was also very human.

Jesus was exceptionally clear: His human body was a temple!

In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

Ephesians 2:21-22

This really seals the point, doesn’t it? We are, both individually and collectively, becoming a “dwelling in which GOD lives by His Spirit!”.

I think we can all agree that the Bible is conclusive: our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament, a tremendous amount of resources, including time, talent, attention, and money were devoted to the building of God’s temple. The temple of the Holy Spirit – our body – should be no different!

Pray today for the Lord’s strength to help you build a temple worthy of the Holy Spirit. Ask for strength to choose the right foods, the desire to plan your meals, the shift in priorities to create time to exercise. Start with the clear scripture, and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you in more detail about His desire for you!

Take care, and God bless you richly,
