Our mind is unbelievably powerful. The thoughts that come from our mind lead to how we feel, which often leads to how we act. The problem occurs when we realize that nearly all of our thoughts are the result of habits.
The question is this: are your habits good or bad ones?
How do you know if your mindset and thought habits are good or bad? Honestly, by how you feel the majority of the time. Since your thoughts basically dictate your feelings, and your actions stem from your feelings and your interpretation of everything that happens around you, it’s pretty easy to look around and decide whether your thoughts are helping you or harming you.
Why is this so important for Christian weight loss? That’s a good question!
The reason that a positive mindset is so important is because food has become a way to cope and a way to deal with bad feelings. Instead of using our mind, we are using our stomachs to control how we feel.
How many times have you eaten because you were bored, angry, or frustrated? Wouldn’t it have been more productive to find something useful to do with your mind, and subsequently your actions, instead of reaching for an unhealthy snack?
Having a positive and motivated Mindset is crucial for creating the Fit For Jesus philosophy of Fitness Focused on Eternity. We must get past the reality that nearly everything in our lives is actually a reaction born of habit. It’s time to take control!
So… what should we think about? Paul give us a great recipe for a positive mindset in the Bible.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.
Phillipians 4:8 (NIV)
Finding things that qualify as true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy is actually *very* easy when you know where to look! Check out this list.
1) Scripture
2) Gratitude
3) Godly Goals
Now, how easy is that! But, hey, let’s break it down even further!
In Scripture, you can look for: God’s promises, Value Verses that show how valuable you are, and the teachings of Jesus!
While at times, you may not feel like you have much to be grateful for to express Gratitude, here are 3 quick ones: your ability to exercise (even if you may be overweight, you are still blessed with a body that functions and can move!), your shelter, and your ability to get healthy food and water (a huge blessing… just ask other countries in the world).
And finally, you can’t go wrong with Godly Goals! Decide what you would like to DO, how you would like to MAKE A DIFFERENCE, and what you would like to BE.
So, check out Phillipians 4:8 again and work on your positive Mindset as you get Fit For Jesus!

Jeremy and CariLyn, you picked two of my very favorite verses! Thinking on “right” things is so helpful to me when things just seem to go “phlooey” in my life! And knowing that with God’s strength, I can do anything is what gives me strength to go on sometimes. CariLyn, I too praise God for your MS remission and your boldness to present your plan to your church.

your Gratitude: I am gratful for my health today I have Relapsing/remitting MS right now i am in remission PRAISE GOD.
your Godly Goals: I want to share the message of good health with my church family but honestly i am afraid to take the next step and actually present my ideas. I know my fear does not come from the Lord so i have to get myself organized and take the step.
