If you’ve been reading the blog the last few weeks, you may have noticed that I am rotating through the 5 factors of getting Fit For Jesus. They are:
- Spirituality
- Mindset
- Nutrition
- Exercise
- Lifestyle
Today’s blog post is about the Fit For Jesus “Losing” Lifestyle. There has been some controversy about the concept of “losing” weight and weight “loss”, because our brains are so wired against the concept of “losing” anything.
It goes against our nature to lose… we always want to gain and win. We want to be ahead. It’s how we’re built and what we are taught from the moment we are born. We are always taught to “get” and “do” and “be” more. We are rewarded for getting smarter, for getting more money, for getting the love of our life.
But we are never taught to lose… until we open our Bible.
Confused? It says to “lose” in the Bible? Where?
Let me clarify with a few verses.
From Paul: “It teaches us to say “NO” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope – the appearing of the glory our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”
~ Titus 2:12-14
From Jesus: “If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.”
~ Matthew 5:29-30
Wow! Jesus really put it out there, didn’t He? Jesus was really clear about this: do not let a lifestyle of living for the evil things of this world lead you to destruction! In other words, it is quite ok (and highly encouraged) to “lose” the ways of this world, as opposed to losing your body to hell!
With Fit For Jesus, there are several things that we need to lose.
- In order to care for our bodies (the temple of the Holy Spirit!), we need to “lose” the habit of eating processed, unhealthy food and drinking calorie- and chemical-laden liquids.
- In order to care for His temple, we need to “lose” the habit of inactivity. I actually don’t believe that everyone is lazy! It’s far truer that inactivity has become a habit!
- In order to care for the gift of His creation and a source of His pleasure, we need to “lose” the baggage and habits of our past and move forward into His loving embrace. If you are a Christian, God isn’t looking at your past, so why are you? He is looking at the redeeming blood of His Son because you chose His gift, and we should be looking at Jesus, too!
Choose to look now at Jesus and forward into your guaranteed glorious future in eternity!
- We need to “lose” our low self-esteem and feelings of low self-worth. You are a new creation, saved by God’s grace, and an heir to the kingdom because of Jesus Christ! You are immensely valuable!
As you can see, friend, it’s quite okay to “lose” the world. When it comes to your health and getting Fit For Jesus, it’s quite imperative that you lose the habits and addictions that are keeping you unhealthy and overweight!
Place your lifestyle in His wonderful, capable, creative hands, and start “losing” as many ways as you can!
God bless you richly, and enjoy getting Fit For Jesus!
